Unlike several rural areas in the country, which do not have access to toilets, this particular village is devoid of toilets for the most unusual reason.

The residents of Ghazipur village in Bihar have no toilet in the region because of their strong belief in superstitions. They believe that toilets bring bad luck and deaths.

The roots of the belief date back to 1994, when Siddheshwar Singh, an affluent farmer of the village, was constructing a toilet at home. He lost his son to some mysterious disease, while the construction was still on.

Since then, the villagers have been very reluctant to construct toilets. The village has no toilet till date.

Despite the government’s Swachh Bharat campaign against open defecation, these unaware villagers do not consider the positive side of constructing toilets, because of this superstition. Reluctant to construct one, they believe that toilets may bring bad fortune.
