Today, June 7, the first-ever World Food Safety day is being observed worldwide by the United Nation General Assembly to spread awareness about food safety and to reduce the foodborne diseases.
The theme this year for the day is “Food Safety, everyone’s business.” According to the UN, access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health.
As per the stats, with an estimated 600 million cases of foodborne diseases annually. Almost 1 in 10 people in the world fall ill after eating food that is contaminated. Also, food safety is an increasing threat to human health.
Children under 5 year of age carry 40 percent of the foodborne disease burden with 125000 deaths every year.
UN’s statement that food safety is everybody’s responsibility is very clear. As a consumer of good and food products, it is important that you keep in mind a very important aspect of food safety. Failing to do so can lead to life-threatening diseases.
