17 years after formation, no welfare committees for Muslims in Jharkhand

Jharkhand is to call for a series of protests and demonstrations in connection with Muslim welfare. Since many of the required committees for the welfare of the Muslims have not been formed, the economic and social development of the Muslim society seems to be affected adversely. Careless attitude of the government towards the community has brought displeasure to the minority group. The entire Muslim society is upset and now demands the government to look into the matter seriously, for which Welfare Minister Louis Marandi has expressed his consentient.

As per the Census 2011, Jharkhand constitutes of Hindus in a majority (67.83 per cent), while Muslims in minority, forming 14.53 per cent of the state. Despite being the minority population, the community is spread across the state in large groups. However, even after 17 years of forming the state, many committees for the welfare of Muslims have not been formed. The formation of the Urdu Academy has not been established.

The group demands the separate formation of Madarsa Board.  The Waqf Board is without the Chairman. Other boards and corporations like Waqf Board Tribunal Court, Minority Finance Corporation have also not been formed.

At the same time, the State Haj Committee has not been formed since last November, which is affecting the functioning of the Haj Committee. Despite many protests from the small political parties and social organisations, no action has been taken yet to form any of the welfare committees.  People of Muslim society believe that the government is least concerned about the minority groups of the state.

What is more upsetting is the fact that neighbouring states Bihar and West Bengal facilitate better to their Muslim communities. The position of the Muslims in these states is much better in comparison to Jharkhand.

These minority groups have also been demanding the formation of Weavers Commission to improve the situation of weavers so that the welfare of the people of this society can be improved and their economic condition gets improved.
