Following allegations of ragging in a government medical college at Manjeri in Kerala’s Malappuram district, at least 21 students have been suspended. Senior students allegedly made freshers to wash toilets and drink contaminated water as part of the ragging.

Around 40 students lodged a complaint with the college management regarding the same following which the action was initiated. An investigation also initiated by the college’s internal committee that will submit its report to the anti-ragging committee today.

The anti-ragging committee that includes representatives from the police and media will assess the report and then file a complaint in accordance of the seriousness of the act.

It is not even a week that six college students accused of harshly ragging first-year students of a government polytechnic college in Kottayam surrendered before the police. Reportedly, there are a total of seven accused of which two are still absconding.

As per the Supreme Court’s guidelines, places where freshers are accommodated should be cautiously guarded by a warden. Plus, the entrance of seniors and outsiders shall also be banned after specified hour of night to prevent such cases.
