250 candidates detained in BPSC TRE-3 exam paper leak case in Hazaribagh, with 5 suspects already arrested

Over 250 candidates in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, were arrested for a paper leak in the Bihar Public Service Commission's TRE-3 exam, with five suspects suspected of providing question papers.

250 candidates detained in BPSC TRE-3 exam paper leak case in Hazaribagh: On Friday, the Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) TRE-3 examination apprehended more than 250 candidates in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand for a purported paper breach. The authorities apprehended five suspects beforehand on suspicion of providing question papers to the candidates.

These applicants received BPSC TRE-3 exam questions in Hazaribagh two days ago and stayed in a Pelawal banquet venue. The participants were taken to their exam centers from Pelawal at 3 am.

A tip-off led police to arrest 90 Barhi, 70 Pelaval, 80 Padma, 15 Korra, and 15 Katkamsandi candidates. Furthermore, authorities have apprehended five individuals suspected of orchestrating the paper breach. They have recovered computer systems, laptops, question papers, printers, and pen drives.

An Economic Offenses Unit spokesperson charged each candidate Rs 8–15 lakh, with Rs 2–3 lakh required in advance. Until candidates complete payment, they must hold their certificates. The document leak case may have compromised Rs 50 crore in transactions.

The official made arrests after receiving information about the Hazaribagh paper breach on Thursday. Reports indicated that candidates had congregated in multiple areas, so the team sent a second team to Hazaribagh on Friday to conduct operations. Officials believe that there were over 500 hopefuls, and nearly half managed to escape using the darkness.

An official said that the Economic Offences Unit, with the help of Hazaribagh Police, detained 250 candidates from Hazaribagh Nagwan Toll Plaza, Nagwan Toll Plaza, and a hotel.

Authorities interrogated and checked candidates in Patna after imprisoning them. Officials stated that they would impose consequences on any candidate found guilty, and they are currently scrutinizing Patna and the surrounding areas.

A bus operator was asked by the authorities to take the candidates to Biharsharif, Nawada, and Begusarai because the train arrived late, and they were supposed to catch it to their exam centers. In addition, the bus operator gave an average of Rs 10,000 advance to applicants before leaving around 3.30 am.

In the meantime, the police asked the operator to stop all vehicles at the nearest police stations. The bus operator stopped one bus in Katkamsandi, one at Padma, and one at Korra. In contrast, police detained candidates at the banquet hall.

Security personnel transported candidates to Patna around midnight. The operation also confiscated a vehicle belonging to a senior official of Bihar. We discovered that the vehicle in question is a rented vehicle and it is currently en route to Patna.
