AH Mahmood Ali, Bangladesh foreign minister, on Tuesday said that 3,000 Rohingya Muslims have been killed since 25 August, following the violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
Tension had been escalating in the Rakhine state a month before the operation when the Myanmar government started increasing army deployment at many points of the state, Mahmood Ali said as quoted by the Daily Star. The minister also alleged Myanmar of not taking Rohingya refugees back despite international pressure.
At least half a million Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh due to violence in the Rakhine state. Bangladesh is currently sheltering 507,000 Rohingya refugees.
The Myanmar government does not recognise the Rohingyas as their citizens and they are rendered homeless.
