314 new Covid cases push Gurugram’s tally to 18,142

Gurugram, Sep 21 (IANS) The Covid-19 tally in Gurugram rose to 18,142 as 314 more people tested positive for the disease, health officials said on Monday.

Of the total cases, 2,811 are active, while 295 people were cured of the disease and discharged from hospitals on Monday, taking the number of recoveries to 15,170 in the district.

With one more fatality, the death toll has reached 161.

On August 21, the district recorded over 100 fresh cases for the first time in 21 days. Since then, in the last 23 days between August 30 and September 21, over 6,316 people have tested positive.

“Covid testing has been increased in the district to prevent the spread of infection. Also an intensive testing campaign is being conducted in Gurugram to control the coronavirus infection,” Virender Yadav, CMO Gurugram said.

A health official also informed that in the district, RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests are being done in the ratio of 60:40, which means that there are more number of tests by RT-PCR method.

The Civil Surgeon also stated that the positivity rate in Gurugram is 7.5 per cent and the death rate due to infection of the virus is 0.88 per cent.

Divisional Commissioner Ashok Sangwan also informed that the number of beds in government and private hospitals for corona patients has also been increased significantly.

“The district administration has increased the beds from 25 per cent of the total beds in hospitals to 35 per cent for Covid-19 patients. About 2,000 beds have been made available for corona patients in the district. Apart from these, 260 beds in ICU and 122 beds with ventilator facility are also available for corona patients,” Sangwan said.
