Alwar Villagers Missing From Voter List: Around 350 residents of Ravandevra village in Rajasthan’s Alwar have found themselves missing from the voters’ list, leaving them unable to vote in the recently held local body elections.

The villagers said they reached the polling station for Ward 26 but were told that their names were not on the electoral roll. They had been registered in the urban area and had voted in municipal elections since 2014.

After discovering that their names had been removed, the residents checked the voter list for the panchayat area as well. But their names were missing there too.

Villagers Say Names Were Not Transferred

According to the residents, their area was shifted from the urban zone to the rural area following a delimitation exercise. They claim that while their names were removed from the urban voters’ list, they were never added to the corresponding panchayat list.

The villagers also alleged that no Booth Level Officer visited the area after the boundary changes. They said they were not given any notice informing them about the deletion of their names.

Vijay Singh Gurjar said the villagers approached the SDM, who assured them that the matter would be investigated. However, he claimed that the issue had remained unresolved even after several days.

“I have been making repeated visits to the SDM office for the past eight days,” he said.

Gurjar added that officials told them their area may have been shifted to the rural zone because of changes in boundaries. The villagers then searched the panchayat-level electoral roll but could not find their names there either.

Villagers Threaten Protest At Mini Secretariat

The residents said that if their names were removed from the urban electoral roll because of delimitation, they should have been transferred to the appropriate rural voters’ list.

“Once the name of a voter is removed from the electoral roll of a specific area, it is essential that the name be added to the list of the corresponding area to ensure they are not deprived of their right to vote,” Gurjar said.

Another villager, Ramkumar, warned that the residents could hold a protest at the mini secretariat if the issue was not resolved soon. He said the entire village, along with their livestock, would join the sit-in.

Alwar SDM Madhav Bhardwaj said the matter had reached his office and officials were collecting detailed information.

“Action will be taken in accordance with rules prescribed by the Election Commission,” he said.

The district collector has also reportedly assured the villagers that their names would be added to the voters’ list.
