Thousands of people descended on the streets of London for the Million Mask March which saw police make a total of 47 arrests.

Supporters of the hacktivist group ‘Anonymous’ began their march from London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday while scores of Police maintained a tight parameter around them.

The protest passed off without major incident. Police officials had made a total of 47 arrests, majority for drug offences and obstruction of officers, the guardian reports.

The protest began peacefully. Several protesters climbed the base of Nelson column and chanted the slogan “one solution, revolution”.

“Whilst the majority of those taking part were peaceful, there were pockets of disorder and a number of fireworks thrown which thankfully did not result in injury,” Scotland Yard told Telegraph.

The protesters ignited fireworks and flares in front of Westminster Abbey.

Last year’s march saw ugly scenes as missiles and fire works were thrown at police.
