Mojtaba Khamenei on Strait of Hormuz: Iran has again said it does not want the ongoing war to damage its relations with neighboring countries. At the same time, Tehran claims some attacks against it came from US military bases located in those nations. In a message read on state television, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Iran still supports friendly ties with its neighbors but warned that Tehran would continue targeting the bases it says were used against it.

The statement came during a very tense period in the region. Fighting has raised fears of a wider conflict across the Gulf and also caused concern in global energy markets because of risks around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Khamenei said the closure of the strait should continue to pressure Iran’s enemies. He also warned that US bases in the region must be shut down and could be targeted.

Even while using strong language, he tried to separate neighboring countries from the military bases Iran blames for attacks. He said Iran does not want to break relations with nearby states, but it will keep retaliating against bases involved and will avenge what he called its “martyrs.”

The New Leader Speaks

This statement matters even more because it comes soon after a major change in Iran’s top leadership. Mojtaba Khamenei has recently stepped into the role of supreme leader, and this message is being closely watched as a sign of how he plans to lead during war. His words suggest a tough position. There was no sign of retreat. Instead, he called for unity inside Iran and asked people to take part in Quds Day events.

The language around the new leadership also carried emotion and symbolism. In remarks shared from his newly made X account, Khamenei spoke about the heavy responsibility of taking a place linked to the country’s past leaders.

He said, “I, Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, your servant, along with you and through the Islamic Republic Broadcasting, became aware of the result of the vote of the esteemed Assembly of Experts. For me, leaning upon a place that has been the seat of two great leaders, the great Khomeini and the martyred Khamenei, is a difficult task. I had the honor of visiting their body after martyrdom; what I saw was a mountain of steadfastness, and I heard that he had clenched the fist of his healthy hand.”

Public Support

Another post from the same X account praised the Iranian people for their response during the crisis. It described the public as brave and strong during a difficult time. The post said, “The insight and wisdom of the great Iranian nation in the recent event, along with its steadfastness, courage, and presence, compelled friends to admiration and foes to astonishment. It was you, the people, who led the country and guaranteed its authority. If that supreme blessing was taken from us, in its place, the Ammar-like presence of the Iranian nation was once again bestowed upon this system,” a post read from his newly made X account.
