Kolkata: Girl shares objectionable Facebook post over Pulwama attack, receives rape threats

Days after a Kashmiri doctor said he was considering leaving Kolkata city after his daughters complained of ostracism in school and neighbourhood in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror strike, a class-12 student from the same city received several rape and life threats for a post on the plight of Kashmiris in the wake of the Pulwama attack which killed 40 CRPF jawans.

According to the reports, some people asked the teenage girl to leave the country and go to Pakistan in reply to her post while others threatened rape and dire consequences. A local shopkeeper also told her that a few men were trying to locate her house through her Facebook pictures

The girl initially informed her friends about the hateful messages flooding in her inbox, these messages soon turned into rape threats and vile abuses.

A report in one of the leading publications claimed that the messages forwarded to the publication by the victim girl read: “You should be raped. Didn’t they rape you?”; We should send boys to your room.”

The girl lodged a complaint on Wednesday, and said police has assured her of all help, including providing security.

The cyber crime division of the Kolkata Police was looking into the matter.

This is not the first incident though. The aftermaths of Pulwama attack has brought trouble to many Kashmiris and others who posted their opinions over the attack on social media. Recently, a primary school teacher’s house was put on fire for her objectionable social media post. Similarly, many Kashmiri Girl students staying in a Dehradun hostel were threatened to vacate the place post the terrifying Pulwama attack.
