Barbers across Maharashtra have demanded a financial help from the state government after over two months of the lockdown on Saturday. They threatened to opt for jal samadhi at a meeting held in Pune if they did not get financial help including Rs 5,000 cash for each barber.
Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday, “All restaurants, malls and places of worship in Delhi will open from tomorrow. But people will have to maintain social distancing”. He further added, “We are also opening Delhi borders from tomorrow”.
According to a five-member committee formed by the Delhi government, the capital of India may have at least one lakh COVID-19 cases by June end. The five-member committee was formed to manage the overall COVID-19 preparedness in hospitals and augment health infrastructure in Delhi and advised the state government to arrange for an additional 15,000 beds.
India today reported the highest single-day spike of 9,971 new coronavirus cases and 287 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of cases in the country to 2,46,628. This includes 1,20,406 active cases, 1,19,293 cured/discharged and migrated and 6,929 deaths.
India on Saturday surpassed Spain, becoming the fifth worst-hit nation by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to data compiled by John Hopkins University, the total number of confirmed cases in India stands at 243,733 as opposed to Spain’s figures of 240,978.
According to the Health Ministry of India, the coronavirus pandemic in India will be over in mid-September. However, the COVID-19 positive cases are rising in the country with each passing day.
India’s top four metropolitan cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai are the worst hit by the pandemic and account for nearly half of the nationwide coronavirus tally. Other major urban cities affected by the coronavirus outbreak include Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Pune in Maharashtra, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
