₹5 Crore Extortion Threat to MLA: In a major crackdown on organised crime in Jharkhand, the Dhanbad Police on Saturday carried out a bulldozer action against a property linked to fugitive gangster Prince Khan in Wasseypur after he allegedly threatened Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee in an extortion case.
The action came after police registered a case alleging that Khan demanded ₹5 crore from the legislator and issued threats of serious consequences if the money was not paid. Authorities described the demolition as part of an ongoing campaign against the gangster’s criminal network.
What Is the Alleged Threat Case?
According to police officials, Prince Khan allegedly contacted Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee and demanded an extortion payment of ₹5 crore. Investigators claim the gangster warned the MLA of dire consequences if the demand was ignored.
A recorded WhatsApp message containing the threats was sent. It stated, “Tell the administration to block the number, but that won’t achieve anything. Tell us clearly whether you’ll pay or not. If you don’t, we won’t call you again and will deliver a direct result. Manage it, end the matter.”
An FIR was subsequently registered, and the police launched an investigation into the alleged extortion attempt. Officials have not disclosed all details of the investigation, citing operational reasons.

Following the latest allegations, a heavy police force reached Wasseypur and demolished a structure associated with Prince Khan.
Officials stated that the action forms part of legal proceedings and the administration’s continued drive against absconding criminals and their assets. Reports indicate that authorities had previously conducted multiple attachment and seizure operations against Khan’s properties after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court.

What is Prince Khan?
He is listed among one of the most wanted gangsters of the state of Jharkhand and is also known as Haider Ali aka Prince Khan. The accused faces many criminal charges in cases of murder, extortion, criminal intimidation, firing incidents, and organized crime.
For the past one year, Jharkhand Police have increased action against alleged partners of Khan, including arresting members of his network and hitting his gang’s funding support. The action, police officials stated, was aimed at dismantling the criminal ecosystem around the Wasseypur-based gang.
Crackdown on the Wasseypur Gang
The Police department recently released a statement saying that it was believed Khan was directing his criminal network from outside of the country and have sought external assistance in bringing him to justice.
“Keeping public safety in mind and in compliance with the court’s directions, action is being carried out with the help of a JCB. Further proceedings will continue as per the court’s orders,” City SP Ritwik Srivastava said.
In the past few months, Police have arrested multiple alleged collaborators of the fugitive gangster, cracked down on financiers and logistic support for the gang and carried out several raids on the network of the Wasseypur gang. Officials state the extortion attempt against the MLA Arup Chatterjee remains under investigation and further action is being taken against those aiding the fugitive gangster.
