Ahead of Chhattisgarh polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state would perform better than 2013 assembly elections, revealed during a survey conducted by the by ABP News-Lokniti CSDS. The incumbent BJP government-led by Chief Minister Raman Singh will get 43 per cent of vote share and Congress will obtain around 36 per cent votes. However, the grand alliance of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi’s Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (CJC) and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will get 15 per cent of vote share.
As per the political experts, the BJP will get 52-60 seats in the elections. However, the Congress will get around 17-25 seats. And the much anticipated BSP-Janta Congress Chhattisgarh alliance will not get more than 7 seats. In the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly, 45-seat is the halfway mark. In the last assembly polls, the BJP had won 49 seats with a vote share of 41 per cent. The Congress was restricted to 39 constituencies with 40.03% vote share. Among others, the BSP had won 2 seats
The survey done by news channel ABP News was conducted in collaboration with Lokniti-CSDS in the final week of October 2018. The sample size was 14,092, combined in the three states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
BJP is ruling in the Chhattisgarh since 2003 under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and while Congress is looking to end its fifteen years of exile in the state.
