Raman Singh and Karuna Shukla, the millionaire contestants in Chhattisgarh election

Ahead of polls, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on October 23 filed his nomination from the Rajnandgaon constituency and Congress candidate Karuna Shukla, who is the niece of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has also filed her nomination against Raman Singh. Polling will be held on November 12 in Rajnandgaon.

What they (Raman Singh and Karuna Shukla) have officially declared in their affidavits filed with the Election Commission of India, it concludes that both contestants are millionaires.

Raman Singh’s Assets

Raman Singh has a total deposit of Rs 20, 86,885 in banks and land totalling around 22.6 acres of worth Rs 13, 60,000. His wife has Rs 36, 82, 828 in bank accounts, land worth Rs. 46 lakhs and a plot worth Rs. 25 lakhs. The Chief Minister’s wife also owns 235 tola gold, 18 kg silver and diamond jewellery worth Rs. 10,795,000.

Karuna Shukla’s Assets

Congress candidate Karuna Shukla has deposits of Rs 27, 91, 600 in banks. She owns gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 7, 70,000. Shukla has other assets of worth Rs 35, 61, 600.

Raman Singh is looking for a record fourth term in office for himself and BJP, whereas Karuna Shukla is aggressively campaigning against BJP and slammed saffron party on various issues.

Stating Shukla’s selection as a failure of Congress,  Raman Singh said her candidature made a clear statement about the Congress party’s inability to find local candidates.
