Ram Ray, a well-known face in the advertising world and the founder-chairperson of Response India Private Limited, breathed his last on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 77 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
Ray’s great work was hidden to none and appreciated and recognised in India and globally.
Ray, who gave over 40 years to the advertising industry, also headed JWT India and USA and Bates (Clarion). He had worked with more than 300 diverse clients and numerous Marcom and design professionals in India and USA. He has been a mentor and a guiding force for many.
Reacting upon the news, Rajya Sabha MP, Derek O’Brien, took to Twitter and wrote “We will miss you, Ram Ray. One of India’s advertising legends. Loved Kolkata. Loved Bengal. Loved advertising.”
Historian Ramachandra Guha also condoled his demise. “Very sad to hear of the passing of Ram Ray, a giant of Indian advertising. He was a deeply cultured human being, even by Bengali standards,” his tweet reads.
