Muzaffarpur: The third central team paid visit to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) Muzaffarpur with an aim to research and confirm the cause behind the mysterious death of children.

The mismatch in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) reports irked the team of doctors to the core. There were gross wrong doing in carrying out above mentioned tests. Due to incorrect marking of CSF samples, identification of samples with patients’ report did not happen. So, CSF collection and testing will be re-done in presence of the doctors of central team.

According to the team, CSF is crucial body fluid with limited quantity in body and its wastage due to any mistake can cause harm to the patient. Reports of patients admitted in PICU-1 were rejected because of mismanagement. Observing blunder during test procedure, the team suggested patients to prefer All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for further treatment.

The SKMCH during earlier visit of the central team also drew criticism. It’s report was highly critical on the composition of paediatric intensive care units (PICUs). It said- areas labelled as PICU do not fulfill criteria to be labelled as PICU on multiple standards, including space, functionality of equipment available, number of doctors and nurses, documentation, record-keeping and training and competency of medical and nursing staff.

The central team is set to carry out a research on encephalitis outbreak and its relation temperature and humidity. Detail study will be done after procuring data from Central Agriculture University, Pusa.
