To stop unsolicited phone calls, telecom operators plan to implement new technology. Both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are anticipated to install Spam filters for easy identification. The new development occurred shortly after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) requested that all telcos block all unwanted message templates within two months. Telemarketers are misusing templates and headers of registered parties via the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform, according to the regulator.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stated that telcos should prevent misuse, confusing messages, and header-like appearances. In addition, the regulator stipulates that telecom companies must adhere to all rules and instructions outlined in the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations, 2018, within 30 days.

In addition, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has instructed telcos to block all telemarketers who are not listed or registered on the DLT platform. Moreover, according to a report by CNBC-Awaaz, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are in the final stages of installing AI-enabled spam filters on their respective networks. According to the report, Vodafone-Idea has completed trials of the Regulatory Sandbox, which is expected to launch soon, whereas Airtel is conducting trials with other businesses.

Notably, five million templates have been registered on the DLT platform, and close to eighty percent have not been used in the past six months, giving individuals the opportunity to misuse the listed templates. In the meantime, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) plans to launch a Digital Consent Authorisation platform for obtaining customers’ opinions or content regarding spam calls and messages.
