Samajwadi Party(SP) chief, Akhilesh Yadav, has been re-elected as the party president for the next five years. The decision was taken at the party’s national convention at Agra on Thursday.

The party will now fight the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections under Akhilesh’s presidentship.

The former UP chief minister has steadily sidelined his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle, Shivpal Yadav in the party they formed 25 years ago.

At the Samajwadi Party’s national convention on 1 January this year, Akhilesh displaced his father as party chief. Later on 16 January , the Election Commission alloted his faction the party’s ‘bicycle’ symbol.
