WhatsApp’s new reminder tool: WhatsApp is now trying out a new feature that lets users set reminders for individual messages. This new option is showing up in the beta version for Android, version 2.25.21.14, through the Google Play Beta Program. Earlier, they had tested this in version 2.24.25.29. Now with this rollout, users can test how it works before it becomes available to everyone.

With this feature, when you get a message and want to remember it later, you just have to long press on that message. After that, you tap on the three-dot menu at the top and choose “Remind me.” Then it gives you some time options like 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours. You can also pick a custom time if you want. After setting it, a small bell icon will show next to that message, so it’s easy to spot later in the chat.

Reminder Notifications

When your chosen reminder time comes, WhatsApp will send you a notification that says “🔔Reminder”. This notification shows the original message and tells you which chat it came from. If the message had a photo, video, or anything else like that, it shows a preview too. You don’t have to open the app to know what the reminder is about. The reminder works with all types of messages whether it’s text, images, GIFs, or videos.

But the reminders don’t work for all chats at once. You have to set them one by one. If you want reminders for more than one message, you have to do it separately for each one. This might be really helpful in busy group chats or channels, where messages can easily get lost and you may miss something important. This works along with the tools that already exist like starring messages or pinning chats, but this one gives a more clear alert right on time.

There’s also some talk that WhatsApp is trying another related feature too. That one would remind you about messages from people you talk to a lot, especially if you forgot to read them. This could be good if you have a lot of chats going on at the same time and don’t want to miss something from someone close.

Currently this feature is only available in the beta version for Android. There’s no fixed date for when everyone will get it. But WhatsApp is also expected to bring this feature to iPhone users in the future through the TestFlight beta program.
