Angry mob thrash man in Bihar’s Darbhanga district

Darbhanga: An angry mob flogged an accused on October 12 after he looted a man in Bazaar Samiti under Mabbi police station area in Bihar’s Darbhanga district– the video of which went viral.

The accused have been identified as Michael Devanath Rao. He is a resident of Jajpur district in Odisha, police said.

Three bike-borne men looted 1.5 lakh from Pradeep Prasad Gupta, a resident of Ranway village under Keoti Ranway block of the district. People grabbed Rao and thrashed him. On receiving information, Mabbi station in-charge Gautam Kumar reached the spot to control the situation and rescued the accused.

District senior superintendent of police Garima Malik took immediate action and set up a team under the leadership of sub-divisional police officer Anoj Kumar.

The police team interrogated Rao and arrested two other accused from Rajnagar of Bihar’s Madhubani district.

The two accused– Mugleshu and Michael Prem, are also residents of Jajpur.

Police have recovered ₹ 47,500, one bike, six mobile phones, several sharp weapons, two ATM cards and a key from their possession.
