Deogarh, January 4: Residents of Chakadihi village under Barkot block in Odisha’s Deogarh district are having a sleepless night. A mystery animal has killed 12 goats in the village till Monday morning. But no one has seen the mysterious animal that attacked.

According to Orissapost, many goats were also found injured. The incident reportedly occurred on late Sunday night, and the carcasses were spotted on Monday morning.

Reports suggested that goats had gone to gaze in a nearby forest and did not return till the next morning, which prompted locals to look for them. In the wee hours of Monday, they found carcasses of 12 goats. The three goats were also found injured. The search is on for missing 25 goats.

According to an eyewitness, the goats got panicked after seeing something and ran astray on Saturday evening. Locals suspect the involvement of wild animals behind the killings.

Meanwhile, Barkot forest range officials have taken stock of the situation. Two Closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) have been set up to track the movement of wild animals.

In 2017, a large number of sheep were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Niali area of Cuttack district. The incident had triggered severe displeasure among people of Niali, especially the goat farmers.

Over 250 goats were killed by the unidentified predator in the Niali region. Despite the massive operation by forest officials, the killer was not caught then.
