Another scam unearthed in Bihar with financial irregularities worth crores

In District Nazarat cells of Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga, corruption involving financial irregularities has surfaced. According to the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG), the audit report from 2009 to 2017 has cited numerous irregularities mounting to 2 million 33 crore, 23 lakh.

This got revealed when an RTI activist, Amit Kumar filed the RTI seeking information of audit report. During the inspection, from 2011-2016 in Muzaffarpur, CAG found irregularity of Rs 102 crores. In district Nazarat offices, the revenue in accordance with the financial parameters were also misused as pin-pointed by the CAG. While the purchase of flood relief food materials, misuse of Rs 11 lakh 58 thousand was underlined in the report.

On the other hand, in Darbhanga district Nazarat cell, Rs 1 million 31 crore was found misused. On this fraud, the RTI activist Ashok Kumar Jha wrote to the chief secretary and urged for a high level investigation.

In 2015 itself the audit of district Nazarat cell was done by the CAG but till date it did not receive the clarification from the district administration.

The audit report of the CAG on this episode of corruption is already being submitted to the state government and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). But it should be noted that the members of the PAC has leaders from the opposition block too. So, it can be said, both the government and the opposition are trying to be slow and non-decisive on this giant case of corruption.
