A day after Assam NRC final draft list released with letting over 40 lakh applicants left out, the entire nation has come under a panic the fear of getting deported haunts. Of the many not on the list of eligible citizens, it has emerged that the family of India’s former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed’s brother is also among those missing from the draft.

Ziauddin, nephew of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, could not find his family members’ names in the final draft. The family, hailing from Rangia in Kamrup district of Assam, were left in disbelief.

“I am the nephew of former President of India, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, and my name is missing in the NRC final draft. Since my father’s name is not in the legacy data, we are a little worried about it.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramakant Deori is also among the 40 lakh people whose names do not figure in the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam. AIUDF MLA Ananta Kumar Malo is also not listed in the final draft. So was the name of Retired Army man Mohd Azmal Hoque, who has served the country for 30 years.

The government has, meanwhile, said that while this is the final draft, it’s not the “final list“. The government has stated that those who have not been mentioned in the draft can raise objections starting August 30.
