Assam: State Congress unit launches “20 lakh signature” campaign against CAA

The rally started from Sadiya of Assam which took in mass participation of hundreds of people including Congress workers from across the state.

Assam: State Congress unit launches '20 lakh signature' campaign against CAA

GUWAHATI: A mass signature campaign has been launched by the Assam Pradesh Congress Commitee (APCC) to register a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) from Mahabendra Sharma Complex in Guwahati.

The “signature campaign” had been initiated to ask for a roll back of CAA , to assert that strongly a memorandum of 20 lakh signatures had been taken to scrap the contentious Act.

The campaign started paving its onset when former Chief Ministers Tarun Gogoi and Dr. Bhumidhar Barman, followed by the rest of the APCC members and other people flagged off the ceremony.

The signature campaign has been launched under the supervision of former CM Dr. Bhumidhar Barman.

Following this, the Congress leaders went  on to conduct “Astitwa Rakhyar Janajagaran Pad Jatra”, a protest rally to aware the masses to protect the identity, that will conclude at Jalukbari today.

The rally started from Sadiya of Assam which took in mass participation of hundreds of people including Congress workers from across the state.

The state of Assam has been constantly protesting against the Bill-turned-Act since the passing of the Bill at the Rajya Rabha on December 11.

Former CM Tarun Gogoi will be advocating against the Citizenship Amendment Act at the Supreme Court and the next date of hearing has been said to be on January 22 after the Court’s winter break.
