Ayushmann Khurrana-Amitabh Bachchan’s Gulabo Sitabo to release on Amazon Prime on June 12

The unconventional dramedy has been written by Juhi Chaturvedi of "Piku" fame. The title refers to the two heroines of traditional glove puppet theatre in Uttar Pradesh. "Gulabo Sitabo is a slice of life, a dramedy that is a must-watch for families at home," said Amitabh Bachchan.

Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo featuring Ayushmann Khurana and Amitabh Bachchan will be released digitally on Amazon Prime Video on June 12. The film is a family comedy and will be simultaneously available in 200 countries worldwide.

The unconventional dramedy has been written by Juhi Chaturvedi of “Piku” fame. The title refers to the two heroines of traditional glove puppet theatre in Uttar Pradesh.

“Gulabo Sitabo is a slice of life, a dramedy that is a must-watch for families at home,” said Amitabh Bachchan.

Ayushmann also said, “Gulabo Sitabo” is a special film for him. “It made me reunite with my mentor Shoojit da after ‘Vicky Donor’. Whatever I’m today is because of him and I’m happy that he made me a part of his vision again.

‘Gulabo Sitabo’ also sees me share screen space with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan for the first time and it’s a huge moment, it’s a dream come true for me. I have secretly wished to work with him for many, many years and Shoojit da made this happen, and I will be indebted to him forever. It has truly been an honour for me to work with a legend and I feel enriched as an actor after the experience,” he added.

The film industry has taken one of the biggest blows since the release and production of many films were put on hold indefinitely due to the present lockdown put in place to curb the coronavirus menace. With theatres being sealed across the country for almost 50 days now, it seems like production houses are thinking of how to move forward.

On the other hand, OTT platforms are witnessing a huge jump in traffic as cinema halls remain shut amid lockdown.

The other movies lined up for an OTT release are ‘Laxmi Bomb’ starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani will be released on the Disney+ Hotstar channel and ‘Shershah’ on Netflix, a movie on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani.
