Bank Holiday Next Week: Banks in India will stay closed for two days in the week from May 18 to May 24, 2026. The main shut days are May 23, which is the fourth Saturday, and May 24, which is Sunday. These are part of the regular bank holiday pattern followed across the country.
The Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar for 2026 keeps the same basic rule. Banks close on the second Saturday, the fourth Saturday, and all Sundays. That is why branch work should be planned early, especially when money transfers, cheque work, or other in-person tasks are needed.
Bank Holiday Next Week in May
- May 1: Some state-wise holidays were listed for Labour Day and Buddha Purnima in different parts of India. These are not the same everywhere, so branch closure depends on the state.
- May 9: This is the second Saturday of the month. Banks across India are closed on this day.
- May 23: This is the fourth Saturday. Banks across India will stay shut for normal branch work.
- May 24: This is Sunday. Banks will remain closed across the country.
- May 27: Bakrid, also called Eid al-Adha or Eid-ul-Adha, is listed as a bank holiday in several reports for some places. State-wise closure may differ.
- May 31: This is another Sunday, so banks will again be closed nationwide.
What still works on holidays
Even when bank branches are closed, digital services stay open. Customers can still use UPI, net banking, mobile banking, cards, and ATM services for most regular tasks. Money transfer requests and many service forms can also be handled through online channels, while branch counters remain shut.
Bank holidays can change from state to state, so the same day may be open in one place and closed in another. That is why checking the local branch schedule before going out is the safest move.
