BC Khanduri removed as Defence panel chairman after critical report

In what is being speculated as preparation for Lok Sabha elections 2019, Bharatiya Janata Party removes MP and former Minister Major General BC Khanduri from the chairman of the standing committee on Defence on Tuesday. The latest round of reshuffle in Parliamentary panels witnesses removal of two important BJP’s Member of Parliaments from their positions in Centre and in State.

Khanduri has been replaced by former Union Minister 75-year-old Kalraj Mishra. Kalraj Mishra had resigned from the post last year in September for reaching the age limit set by Prime Minister Modi for public offices.

According to speculations, Khanduri’s removal came as a reaction to his loquacious behaviour. He had been revealing a lot of critical reports on the defence preparedness where he also slammed the government for having critical low stock of armaments. The reports released in March this year unveiled the fact that there 68 per cent of the armed forces was in the vintage category.

Apart from him, the Madhya Pradesh MP Rakesh Singh is also removed from the position of Coal and Steel Panel Chairman. He has been replaced with another BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh, Chintamani Malviya.
