BCCI recommends Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja, Poonam for Arjuna Award

Poonam Yadav is the only female cricketer to be recommended for the Arjuna Award 2019.

BCCI recommends Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja, Poonam for Arjuna Award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended four of its player including 1 women and 3 men cricketers for Arjuna Award 2019. Poonam Yadav is the only female cricketer while Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami, fast bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are the recommendations among male cricketers by BCCI.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) met in the Capital to discuss the matter in the presence of GM Cricket Operations Saba Karim. Karim had proposed the names of the cricketers as told by IANS.

To recognize brilliant achievements by the athletes, the prestigious Arjuna Award is bestowed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in order to recognize outstanding achievement by the athletes.

Last year, Indian Women Cricket team opener, Smriti Mandhana was rewarded with the prestigious award, she was the only female player to win this awrad last year.

Jasprit Bumrah is leading the pace bowling attack for India at the ICC World Cup 2019 at England and Wales, starting from May 30. Mohammed Shami has also made a remarkable comeback after being left out due to some injury problems.

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja who is a regualar player for India in Tests has also found his way in the limited over team as he was also named in the India’s 15-member squad for ICC World Cup 2019.
