In another horrific incident, a four-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted at a private school in Bengaluru, allegedly by a member of the school staff. The incident comes days after a seven-year-old boy was brutally murdered in a school in Gurugram, allegedly by a bus conductor. The matter was reported to the police after the girl returned home on Tuesday and complained of pain. Doctors at the MSR Ramaiah Hospital have confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. The formal medical report is pending.
The police suspect one of the guards was involved and they are waiting for the child to recover and identify the accused. All the five guards of the school, located in Dasarahalli area close to the city outskirts, have been detained for questioning after the complaint by parents.
The police added that cases will also be filed against the school management for negligence.
There are CCTV cameras installed inside schools and they maintain the prescribed security norms. But it is not known whether police verification of the support staff, which is part of the security guidelines for the city’s schools, has been conducted.
The security of children at schools has become a matter of serious concern after a child was found murdered at a school in the Millennium City last week. Hundreds of parents have been holding protests in Mumbai and Gurgaon, near Delhi, outside the various branches of the school.
On Wednesday, union ministers, Maneka Gandhi and Prakash Javadekar had to hold a meeting with senior government officials to chalk out a security protocol for schools this morning, but it has been postponed.
