The Police brutally lathi-charged on a group of villagers including women and children who were sitting on hunger strike for the past few days demanding compensation for having been displaced by the floods a few months back.

But, the villagers in return, were beaten by the police so brutally that many women’s clothes were torn off and were seen bleeding.

A large number of people were badly injured and hospitalized after the horrific incident.

The villagers blame the authority for not paying any attention to their plea.

Around 200 people were gathered in front of the Bhagalpur district magistrate’s office since December 5. Out of which, five of them had been on a hunger strike.

As no heed was paid to their demand by the district administration, some of the people allegedly began pelting a few stones at some policemen. This prompted police to lathi-charged on the protestors in an effort to disperse them.

The crowd of protestors had many women, including aged ones. But none of them were spared. The incident received huge criticism from various sections.

The protestors were from mainly from Sultanganj block that was hit by floods a few months back.
