Bihar Five-Storey Modern Bus Terminals: Bihar has moved ahead with its plan to build modern five-storey bus terminals in nine cities. The designs have now been approved and the next major step will be preparing the Request for Proposal, or RFP, before construction can move ahead.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting led by Bihar Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit. According to the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, the first phase will cover Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Biharsharif, Rajgir, Darbhanga, Purnia, Motihari, Tarapur and Munger.
Once the RFP is ready, private companies can take part in the process. The plan is to turn these places into more than just normal bus stands. They’ll work as multi-modal hubs with transport, passenger services and commercial spaces under the same roof.

The new terminals are being planned with several facilities to make bus travel easier for passengers. People will get both AC and non-AC waiting areas along with digital screens for travel information.
The planned facilities include clean drinking water, modern toilets, passenger help centres and proper parking. There will also be safety arrangements and special facilities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Other parts of the project will include ATMs, Didi Ki Rasoi outlets and electric vehicle charging stations. The aim is to make the bus terminals useful even while passengers are waiting for their buses.
The five-storey buildings will have different uses on different floors. The ground floor is planned mainly for bus parking and workshops. The upper floors will have BSRTC offices, cafeterias, shops and waiting rooms.
The terminals are also expected to have dormitories for bus drivers and conductors. Guest rooms, women’s feeding rooms, banquet halls, shopping complexes, hotels and entertainment zones are also part of the proposed design.

The proposed locations include Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Darbhanga, Munger, Jamui, Nawada, Saharsa, Paliganj, Laheriasarai, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Motihari, Chhapra, Sultanganj, Naubatpur, Barbigha, Mokama, Chakai, Sitamarhi, Biharsharif, Aurangabad, Ara, Jehanabad, Sangrampur, Tarapur and Rajgir.
Under the planned model, BSRTC will provide the land while private partners will take care of construction and maintenance. The wider project is aimed at improving bus infrastructure and is also expected to create jobs through shops, food outlets, hotels and other services.
