Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal tests COVID-19 positive, wife and mother gets infected as well

On July 14, BJP headquarters of state in Patna was badly hit by COVID-19 after as many as 75 leaders and office staff members reportedly tested coronavirus positive.

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Jaiswal has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Along with him, his wife and mother are also infected by the novel coronavirus.

According to the reports, Jaiswal had a cold cough and mild fever. Last week, he attended the regional meeting of the party. After his health deteriorated, his samples were tested and his reports were positive for the infection. The other leaders who came in contact with Sanjay Jaiswal will go through the coronavirus testing.

On July 14, BJP headquarters of state in Patna was badly hit by COVID-19 after as many as 24 leaders and office staff members reportedly tested coronavirus positive. Top leaders who were found infected include state vice-presidents Rajesh Verma and Radha Mohan Sharma, state general secretary Devesh Kumar, and state general secretary (organization) Nagendra.

Bihar goes to polls later this year, the party’s preferred leaders are running a legislature-wise virtual rally. The party leaders are constantly meeting in their office. The BJP meeting was organised at the party office in Patna, where leaders of several cells were participating continuously.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday announced that a complete lockdown would be enforced in the state from July 16 to July 31 to break the chain of transmission. In a tweet, Sushil Modi informed that the lockdown would remain in force at all municipal, district, sub-divisional and block headquarters level. “The government has taken a decision to this effect… Corona has neither any vaccine nor any medicine,” Modi said in a virtual rally.

Bihar has recorded 18,853 novel coronavirus cases. Of the 1,432 cases on Tuesday, Patna reported the maximum number of patients at 162, followed by East Champaran at 124, Begusarai at 114, Nalanda at 107, Nawada at 92, Bhagalpur at 61, West Champaran at 58, Siwan at 55 and Muzaffarpur at 54.
