Reservation for persons with disabilities in government jobs and educational institutions has been approved by the Bihar Cabinet on Wednesday. The cabinet gave its nod during a meeting chaired by chief minister, Nitish Kumar, cabinet secretariat department special secretary, Upendra Nath Pandey said. The move has been taken in line with the ‘Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016’, he said.

The government also approved the establishment of a state advisory board to empower ‘Divyangjan’ as envisaged in the Act. Secretaries of several departments will serve as members of the board. It will also have representatives from districts.

Apart from that, two members of the state legislative assembly and one from the state legislative council will also be members of the board, said Pandey. The cabinet also decided to pay allowances to state government staff on the basis of revised rates. The decision comes just a week ahead of the Diwali.
