Bihar Munger Village Diyas: Bihar’s Munger district witnessed a grand celebration of lights on Saturday as Kalyanpur village was decorated with 11,11,111 earthen lamps during a special Deepotsav. The event was held on Chhoti Diwali along the banks of the Ganga. Organisers are hoping to make it the second-largest Deepotsav in the country after Ayodhya.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended the event and lit the first diya at the Shri Shri 108 Badi Durga Maharani Temple in Kalyanpur. The village is located in the Bariarpur block of Munger district. Thousands of local people, volunteers and visitors from nearby districts came to see the celebrations.

The lamps were placed across the temple grounds and nearby areas. The display also covered a stretch of around two kilometres near National Highway 80 and the Ganga riverbank.
Ganga Maha Aarti And Fireworks Add To Celebrations
The Ganga Maha Aarti was one of the main attractions of the event. A total of 101 boats were used for the special prayer ceremony on the river. The celebrations also included a large fireworks show in which hundreds of rockets were used to create an image of Goddess Durga in the sky.
The organisers arranged around 50,000 litres of sesame oil to light the diyas. Around 500 kg of pure ghee was also used to prepare special lamps inside the main temple premises.
The large event needed the help of many people. Local residents and volunteers worked together to place the lamps and fill them with oil. Different teams were given separate duties to make sure the arrangements were completed on time.
Kalyanpur Deepotsav Started In 2019
The annual Deepotsav in Kalyanpur has grown bigger over the years. It first started in 2019 when members of the Kalyanpur Youth Club lit around 51,000 diyas. The number increased every year and reached nearly nine lakh lamps in 2025.
This year, the organisers decided to cross the 11 lakh mark. Local villagers and Youth Club members joined hands to prepare for the event. People from different parts of Munger and nearby districts also came to take part in the celebration.
Organisers want to make Kalyanpur a popular place for religious and cultural tourism. They also hope the growing event will bring more visitors to the village every year.
