Bihar Polls: Former JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav to join hands with Nitish Kumar?

The political churning ahead of Bihar Assembly Polls 2020 is not hidden. From Shyam Rajak moving back to RJD to Chandrika Rai, father of the estranged wife of Tej Pratap Yadav joining JD(U), several MLAs and leaders have changed their sides.

In a recent speculation, Sharad Yadav, former Union Minister is said to rule out from RJD and return to JD(U). The senior leader Sharad Yadav has met with several JD (U) leaders, as per the media reports.

However, there has been no discussion with party president Nitish Kumar over Sharad Yadav’s return to JD(U). Due to this, a final decision on the issue is yet to be taken. According to the JD (U) sources, the party forum is discussing the same.

Sharad Yadav’s close associate Ajit Yadav tagged the speculation as ‘baseless’. He said Sharad Yadav had been sick for some time now. He was undergoing treatment at Delhi Hospital. The RJD leaders met him during the meeting. Ajit Yadav said the former Union Minister will hold a press conference in upcoming days, a report in Navbharat Times stated.

Sharad Yadav has won four times in 1991, 1996, 1999, and 2009 from Bihar’s Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency from where Acharya Kriplani was elected in 1957. He also won thrice from other Lok Sabha constituencies. He has been defeated thrice from Madhepura constituency – twice by Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1998 and 2004 and by Pappu Yadav of RJD in 2014.

He formed Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) in May 2018 after he parted ways from JD(U) due to its alliance with BJP in Bihar.

Meanwhile, in a bid to address people across Bihar during upcoming polls amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the ruling Janata Dal (United) has created a digital platform on which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will start its election campaign with a virtual rally on 6 September.

Polls in Bihar are expected in October-November. Considering the prevalence of coronavirus cases in the state, the ruling party like its BJP ally is bracing to use technology for connecting with the people during the election.
