Sitamarhi: Two people have died in the custody of Bihar’s Sitamarhi police under suspicious circumstances. An investigation has been ordered into the matter and along with station in-charge, 8 cops have been suspended.

A senior police official said on Thursday that on February 20, Mohammed Gufran (30) and Taslim Alam (32) were detained at Ramdih village in Chakia police station area of East Champaran district and were kept at the Dumurra police station in a case of murder and robbery.

It is alleged that during the interrogation, both the accused were beating heavily, due to which their health began to deteriorate. The police then rushed both of them to the Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared both of them as dead.

Sitaramhi’s Superintendent of Police D. Amarkesh said, “Dumur police station incharge Chandra Bhushan Singh along with eight police officers, have been suspended with immediate effect, and the bodies of both the deceased underwent post-mortem.”

The matter is being investigated.
