PATNA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive alert for the entire state, predicting widespread rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning across all 38 districts from May 25 to May 26. This comes as a much-needed respite from the scorching heat that has gripped the region.

The Patna Meteorological Centre has placed a significant portion of the state under an ‘Orange Alert.’

This includes 27 districts where wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, alongside a high probability of lightning and thunderstorms. Residents in Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Jamui, Munger, Lakhisarai, Bhagalpur, Banka, Begusarai, Khagaria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, and parts of Darbhanga should prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for the remaining 11 districts, indicating strong winds at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, accompanied by rain and lightning. These districts include West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, and Kaimur (Bhabua). While the intensity might be slightly lower than the orange alert areas, residents in these regions are still advised to exercise caution.

Even before the main spell, the weather is expected to shift significantly on May 24.

The IMD has already issued an alert for thunderstorms and rain in 24 districts for Saturday. These include Patna, Siwan, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Madhubani.

This impending weather system is expected to bring a significant drop in temperatures, offering relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions. Authorities advise residents to stay updated on local weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the anticipated rough weather.
