Patna: Consumers in Bihar will have to shell out more for their daily milk supply starting Thursday, May 22, as Sudha, the state’s leading milk brand, has announced a price hike across its milk variants. The increase, ranging from ₹2 to ₹3 per litre, comes at a time when households are already grappling with rising costs of food and essentials.
The price of Sudha Gold (Full Cream Milk) has been increased from ₹62 to ₹65 per litre, while Sudha Shakti (Toned Milk) will now be priced at ₹57, up from ₹55. Sudha Cow Milk, which earlier sold at ₹52 per litre, will now cost ₹54.
Sudha Milk Price Hike: Summary of the revised prices:
| Milk Variant | Old Price (₹/L) | New Price (₹/L) | Increase (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sudha Gold (Full Cream) | 62 | 65 | 3 |
| Sudha Shakti (Toned) | 55 | 57 | 2 |
| Sudha Cow Milk | 52 | 54 | 2 |
Importantly, the hike is currently limited to milk. Prices of other Sudha dairy products such as curd, lassi, ghee, and peda remain unchanged. However, sources within the industry indicate that price adjustments for these products might follow, depending on input cost trends.
This development follows a similar move by Amul Dairy, which raised milk prices by ₹2 per litre earlier this month. With both Amul and Sudha increasing rates, consumers are feeling the pinch of inflation in daily essentials.
The price hike also comes just months ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, adding a political angle to the issue. With inflation already a top concern for voters, the increased milk prices are likely to feature in the public discourse in the run-up to the polls.
For many households, especially in urban areas, Sudha is a staple brand. Daily milk consumption being a non-negotiable item, the hike directly affects monthly household budgets.
With food inflation hovering around high single digits, this hike is a reminder that essential commodities remain vulnerable to market and production pressures — even as citizens await broader economic relief.
