Bihar Woman Forced to Lick Spit: A disturbing incident from Begusarai district in Bihar has triggered nationwide outrage after a viral video allegedly showed a woman being forced to lick spit from the ground before a village panchayat. The woman has alleged that the humiliation came after she filed a rape complaint against a neighbour. Following the circulation of the video on social media, police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into both the alleged sexual assault and the public humiliation.
What the Woman Has Alleged?
According to the FIR, the woman alleged that on the night of June 2, a neighbour entered her home and raped her after threatening her. She claimed that villagers caught the accused while he was trying to flee and convened a local panchayat instead of reporting the matter to the police.
The complainant further alleged that during the gathering, she was publicly humiliated and forced to lick spit as a form of punishment. The accused man was also reportedly made to apologise and perform a similar act before those present.

The footage has led to broad condemnation and it has also brought back renewed fears about cases of extra judicial punishments being carried out by informal village groups.

Begusarai DSP (HQ) Nikhil Kumar said on Sunday that an FIR in the case was registered on July 31. “The veracity of the video is being examined. The rape accused is absconding. Police will take action against the guilty persons if the video is found to be genuine”
Police Investigation Underway
An FIR has been lodged and an investigation is currently in motion. Officers are looking into the womans rape claims too but they are also checking what those people did, who were alleged to have organised and taken part in the panchayat proceedings. Authorities are additionally trying to verify how genuine the viral video is and they are recording the statements of everyone linked to it.
According to reports, some nearby residents have claimed that she and the accused were in a consensual relationship and that they were simply trapped in an embarrassing sort of situation. Police have not backed those explanations. They have said the probe will figure out what really happened using evidence.
