Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anil Firojiya has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the permanent deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain.
In his letter dated May 3, 2025, Firojiya emphasized the temple’s status as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, drawing millions of pilgrims annually.
He pointed to the heightened security needs following the inauguration of Mahakal Lok, which has significantly boosted both domestic and international footfall.
Firojiya specifically recommended the presence of CISF or CRPF units, noting that while state police provide routine security, the scale and importance of the site warrant central reinforcement. Looking ahead to the 2028 Simhastha Maha Kumbh, where an estimated 20–25 crore devotees are expected to gather, the MP stressed that robust security measures are essential to manage the massive crowds and prevent potential threats.
This appeal reflects a broader push for enhanced security at India’s major religious and cultural landmarks, especially as they evolve into globally recognized pilgrimage hubs.
