BLACKPINK member Rosé has started her solo career and set two new Guinness World Records titles with her debut single “On The Ground”.
The New Zealand-born Korean singer reached number one on both Global Billboard 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US on March 27. She has previously topped the Global Excl. US chart with “Lovesick Girls” as a member of BLACKPINK with bandmates Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo.
With “On The Ground” Rosé became the third South Korean musician to hit the Hot 100 both on her own and with the group that turned her into a star.
She joins J-Hope and Suga (operating as Agust D) in this feat, as those two BTS members have also found their way to the chart solo and with their band.
Announcing her first solo venture in June 2020, Rosé released her debut album R on March 12 with two lead singles.
The music video for “On The Ground” premiered via YouTube on the same day and subsequently became the most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist with 41.6 million views as per Guinness World Records.
It shattered the previous record held by PSY at 36 million views for the worldwide hit, “Gangnam Style”.
Rosé is the fifth South Korean Soloist
Rosé is now just the fifth South Korean solo artist to land on the Hot 100 at any point. Psy stands at the top with four hit smashes including one with CL. Two members of BTS, J-Hope and Agust D (Suga) have also appeared on the list with their solo work.
