Hollywood legend Warren Beatty along with his co-presenter Faye Dunawaye involved in a massive blunder at the 89th Academy Awards when they mistakenly declared ‘La La Land’ as the Best Picture winner instead of ‘Moonlight.’

However, soon Beatty realized the error and attempted to clear the misunderstanding by saying that the winner’s envelope that he was specified to him read ‘Emma Stone – La La Land’ instead of Moonlight.  Beatty explained that he had been given the wrong envelope to unwrap that led to the blunder.

It is being said that Beatty was given the envelope of ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ – a distinction that was won by Emma Stone for ‘La La Land’. As he opened the envelope, he was seen pondering over the name printed on the card. Warren Beatty apologized for the error, stating that he wasn’t trying to be funny while a confused-looking Jimmy Kimmel too came on the stage to take stock of the situation. Beatty then walked up to the microphone with the winner’s card in hand and showed it to the cameras, just to prove that ‘Moonlight’ was the rightful winner.
