The Bombay High Court has temporarily blocked the entry of a new casino vessel from Deltin Company into Goa’s Mandovi river due to a lack of necessary certifications. The vessel is meant to replace an older ship currently in operation.

The decision, delivered by the Goa bench consisting of Justice Valmiki Menezes and Justice Amit S Jamsandekar, came after a petition filed by a group including Goan freedom fighter Libia Lobo Sardesai. They argue that the new vessel exceeds the size and capacity of the existing one.

The court’s interim order requires that even with the necessary certifications, no vessel will enter Panaji Port without explicit court approval. A subsequent hearing is set for July 6 to further discuss the matter.
