4:25 PM| Uttar Pradesh has reported 13 more Covid-19 fatalities, 1,285 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll has risen to 8,279, and the infection tally to 5,79,982.


3:15 PM| As the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s three farm laws completed a month on Friday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the ongoing agitation is a living monument of the BJP government’s failure. In a tweet in Hindi, Yadav said, “The protest against the farm laws is completing a month today. For the benefit of their dear rich friends and corporate sponsors, the BJP is trading a path that is against all — farmers, labourers, middle and lower classes. The farmer protest is a living monument of the BJP government’s failure.”


3:00 PM| PM Narendra Modi on Friday released Rs 18,000 crore as the next installment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to over 9 crore farmers.


2:30 PM| Actor Rajinikanth has been admitted to Hyderabad Apollo hospital. He was shooting for Annathe and he had slight blood pressure fluctuation. The shoot was suspended after four crew members tested positive for the coronavirus. Rajinikanth, though tested negative, had some blood pressure issues.


1:20 PM| The Janata Dal-United received a major jolt in Arunachal Pradesh, with six of its seven MLAs shifting allegiance to the ruling BJP, a bulletin issued by the state legislative assembly said.

The lone MLA from the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), Kardo Nyigyor from the Likabali constituency, has also joined the saffron party. The development comes a day ahead of the announcement of the panchayat and municipal poll results.


12:15 PM| The government is gearing up to roll-out Covid-19 vaccine across the country. Till today, the state-level training completed in all States/UTs with the participation of more than 7000 district level trainees, except Lakshadweep which will conduct it soon on December 29″, news agency quoted the government as saying.

Dry run for vaccine administration will be conducted in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab next week. This will exercise enable end-to-end mobilisation and testing of COVID-19 vaccination process (except the vaccine) and check the usage of Co-WIN,” it said.

South Korea’s Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Friday 1,241 new coronavirus cases were reported the day before, the highest daily count recorded, with a large outbreak at a prison in Seoul. “The daily record of confirmed cases was renewed yesterday at 1,241 cases,” Chung said at a coronavirus response meeting.
