The former deputy general secretary of the AIADMK, TTV Dinakaran will appear before the Delhi Police in link with a bribery case on Saturday. The AIADMK leader reached the Chennai airport around 8.15 am, and is expected to reach national capital shortly.

The leader is accused of bribing an Election Commission official in a bid to get the ‘two leaves’ party symbol. An FIR was lodged against him after Sukesh Chander, his aide was detained from a five-star hotel on April 16.

The AIADMK party had split into two factions, the AIADMK (Amma) and AIADMK (Puratchi Thalavi Amma), after the death of founder J Jayalalithaa. Both the sides were involved in a desperate fight to secure the original party’s ‘two leaves’ symbol. However, the EC eventually banned either faction from bearing it.

Recently, the two factions attempted to forge a merger. But AIADMK (Puratchi Thalavi Amma) leader O Panneerselvam asked that both jailed general secretary VK Sasikala and her nephew, Dinakaran, be taken out of the party. Dinakaran vacated his post on Wednesday.

However, the Panneerselvam faction was not completely convinced and demanded written proof of the duo’s ouster from the party.
