First K-pop Album to Spend Three Weeks at No. 1

The latest chart-topping week for Arirang makes it the first K-pop album which has achieved three weeks of No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 chart. No Korean act had previously achieved the feat.

BTS establishes new record for Korean artists through their sustained success in the US music industry which requires more effort than achieving a single week at No. 1.

First Group Album in Over a Decade

The milestone has important significance for both K-pop and other music genres. Billboard data cited by entertainment outlets states that Arirang is the first album by a group to spend at least three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since Mumford & Sons released Babel in 2012–13.

The group has begun their ARIRANG World Tour which follows the success of their lead single Swim which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year. The tour will visit 34 cities and 85 shows which marks a record-setting achievement for K-pop artists according to Reuters.

The music industry now watches to see whether BTS will achieve their fourth consecutive week at No. 1 with Arirang as their world tour continues. The group will gain Wikipedia recognition if they reach their next achievement according to Billboard.
