BTS Decline Grammys 2027 Entry: In a move that has surprised fans worldwide, BTS have announced that they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, despite being widely viewed as strong contenders following the release of their record-breaking comeback album, Arirang. The decision also comes just weeks after the Recording Academy introduced the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for the 2027 Grammys.

According to the translated statement, the group said, “We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year. We hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”

New Grammy Category

The announcement is particularly notable because the Recording Academy recently introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance, a new category set to debut at the 2027 Grammy Awards.

Arirang’s Historic Success

Released earlier this year, Arirang became one of BTS’ most successful albums to date. The album:

  • Debuted at No. 1 in multiple countries.
  • Secured the top of the Billboard 200, with 641,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
  • Gained 532,000 pure album sales, thus providing the biggest sales week for a group album in over ten years.
  • Broke Spotify streaming records for an Asian act.
  • Became one of the best-selling albums of 2026.
  • Sold 516,000 physical copies through 17 vinyl releases and 9 CD versions.
  • Powered BTS’ ongoing global Arirang World Tour.
  • 13 tracks from the album joined the Hot 100 chart, raising the career total number of chart entries to 39 songs.

Fans React Online

The announcement quickly became a trending topic across social media, with many ARMY members expressing disappointment while also respecting the group’s decision.

Some fans praised BTS for prioritising artistic values over awards, while others hoped the Recording Academy would continue making its recognition of Asian artists more inclusive in the future. Although BTS have received multiple Grammy nominations over the years, the group has yet to win the prestigious music award.
