Uttar Pradesh: Case registered against 200 for mob lynching in Agra

Agra: The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case against 200 people after a man was allegedly thrashed in Agra on suspicion of being a child lifter.

The incident comes less than 48 hours after Madhya Pradesh Police arrested nine persons in Khargone district in connection with a similar incident.

The case in Agra took place on Tuesday but came to light on Wednesday when video footage of the assault was brought to the attention of the police.

Circle Officer Sadar, Agra, Vikas Jaiswal, told reporters that a case has been registered against 200 people. He added that city police was in the process of identifying the accused with the help of video footage of the incident.

Arrests will follow once they are identified, he added.

Jaiswal added that the local police was making efforts to raise awareness among residents in this regard. People are being informed to alert police in case of any activity concerning instances of child lifting.

This incident of mob lynching on the suspicion of child lifting was the second such incident to have come to light from Agra district on Wednesday.

Police had earlier arrested nine youths for allegedly thrashing a 60-year-old mentally challenged woman after suspecting her of being a child lifter.
