Gujarat deputy chief minister, Nitin Patel, on Wednesday said that the cabinet has decided that the police cases filed against youths during Patidar agitation will be withdrawn. The cabinet held a meeting today to make concrete announcements about the Patidars.

“The two announcements likely to be made are the constitution of a Suvarna Aayog and withdrawal of cases against Patidar activists,” a senior functionary in Gujarat government had earlier told Newsd.

The overwhelming response received by Rahul Gandhi among Patidars in Gujarat had got the state government re-think its strategy. Sources said that Patidar movement leader, Hardik Patel, could meet Congress Vice President at Rajkot on Wednesday. Possibilities of an open alignment of Patidars with Congress had sent the state government in a panic mode. To counter this, Vijay Rupani led government is likely to make some big announcements on Wednesday to pacify Patidars in the state.

Notably, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani called an emergency meeting of the state- core group on Tuesday to assess the Patidar situation and take corrective measures. Following the core group meeting, the state Dy CM Nitin Patel met a Patidar delegation. The meeting was not received favourably by the Patidars and was marred by anti-state government slogans.
